Tokenized US Stocks Go Live on Hyperliquid

Chainlink has confirmed that tokenized exposure to US stocks and ETFs is now available on Hyperliquid, marking a notable step in the push to bring traditional equity markets onchain. The integration is powered by xStocks and Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP), which handles the movement of supported assets across chains and into Hyperliquid's trading environment.

xStocks are 1:1 backed tokenized versions of US stocks and ETFs that now sit on Hyperliquid's spot trading infrastructure. xStocks are developed by Backed Finance, part of the Kraken Group, and are designed to offer users tokenized representations of US equities and ETFs.

The August 10 rollout opened USDC markets for Nvidia's NVDAx, SPYx tracking the S&P 500 ETF, QQQx tracking the Nasdaq-100 ETF, SK Hynix's SKHYx and Micron's MUx. Further xStocks deployments are planned over the coming weeks as the integration expands across Hyperliquid.

How the Integration Works

CCIP handles cross-chain token transfers through a burn-and-mint mechanism: tokens are destroyed on the originating chain and recreated on the destination chain, keeping supply in check. Hyperliquid runs two layers, HyperCore (a custom-built order-book engine) and HyperEVM (an Ethereum Virtual Machine compatible environment). CCIP bridges the gap between HyperCore's native tokens and ERC-20 tokens on HyperEVM, allowing assets from other chains to plug into Hyperliquid's trading system.

After integration on HyperEVM, tokens can be used in DeFi applications like lending collateral. The setup means spot holders and perpetual traders can operate within the same ecosystem, rather than across separate platforms.

Chainlink frames the opportunity in broad terms. The $150+ trillion global equity market is moving onchain, the protocol said, pointing to growing institutional and retail demand for always-on access to equity exposure. Chainlink's infrastructure plays a critical role, providing price feeds to track the asset, Proof of Reserve to confirm backing, and CCIP to enable secure cross-chain transfers.

The xBridge, built by leveraging Chainlink CCIP, allows users to send and receive tokenized equities across chains while maintaining the unique properties that allow xStocks to track stock splits and dividends.
