Strategy Inc. (@MicroStrategy) has restated its ambition to become the largest company in the world by market capitalisation, outlining a three-pillar plan built on Bitcoin reserves, its STRC credit security, and MSTR equity.

842,138 Bitcoin and Counting

As of August 5, Strategy's dashboard showed holdings of 842,138 $BTC, equal to 4.01% of Bitcoin's maximum supply of 21 million coins. The position was acquired for roughly $63.5 billion at an average price of approximately $75,419 per coin, sitting alongside a $58.4 billion reserve and a $36.3 billion net reserve.

The figure reflects a slight reduction from a recent peak. Strategy sold 1,638 BTC for approximately $104.7 million between July 27 and August 2, at an average price of $63,957 per bitcoin. Executive Chairman Michael Saylor said the move increased the firm's USD reserve by $250 million and extended the duration of its dollar reserve by 57 days to roughly 2.3 years.

This marks Strategy's third bitcoin sale of 2026, reflecting a notable shift from the company's long-standing practice of almost exclusively accumulating bitcoin. Even so, the company remains the world's largest corporate holder of the asset. Strategy owns 842,138 bitcoins with a market value of $54.5 billion, making it Bitcoin's largest corporate investor with roughly 4% of the cryptocurrency's total supply on its balance sheet.

STRC, MSTR, and the Path to the Top

The three-pillar framework the company has outlined places its Bitcoin treasury at the centre, supported by capital raised through MSTR equity and STRC, its variable-rate preferred credit instrument. STRC has become the number one holding in all three major preferred stock indexes, including BlackRock PFF, Virtus InfraCap PFFA, and VanEck PFXF, indicating strong institutional demand. STRC issuances raised $7.53 billion year to date through Q2 2026, representing 254% growth.

On the equity side, Strategy's own presentation has highlighted $MSTR delivering 42% annualised performance since the company adopted its Bitcoin standard in August 2020, compared with Bitcoin's own 32% over the same period. In 2025 alone, Strategy raised $25.3 billion of capital, making it the largest equity issuer among US public companies for a second consecutive year.

Whether the goal of topping global market-cap rankings is achievable remains an open question, but the company's trajectory and its accumulation of Bitcoin at scale set it apart from any other publicly listed firm pursuing a similar strategy.
