Shibburn, the community platform that tracks Shiba Inu token burns, has issued a security warning to ethereum:0x95ad61b0a150d79219dcf64e1e6cc01f0b64c4ce holders, urging them to treat any unexpected wallet requests with caution.

The alert focuses specifically on requests asking users to approve permissions or sign transactions. Shibburn emphasised that routine interactions may conceal complex permission requests, potentially exposing users to unexpected risks from decentralised applications. In other words, a transaction that appears straightforward could quietly grant an application far broader access than a user intends.

Know the Basics: What to Watch For

The warning covers several core security principles. In a separate message, Shibburn reinforced standard wallet hygiene tips, warning the $SHIB community never to disclose private keys or seed phrases. These credentials provide complete access to a wallet and should never be entered into any third-party site or shared with another party under any circumstances.

Users should also be wary of unsolicited transaction prompts. Shiba Inu wallet security can be strengthened through several practical measures, such as enabling two-factor authentication on all cryptocurrency-related accounts. Hardware wallets provide an extra layer of security for significant holdings, while regular security audits of connected applications help identify vulnerabilities before they can be exploited.

A Warning Set Against a Difficult Year for DeFi Security

The advisory comes at a time when the broader crypto and DeFi landscape has faced serious security pressure. In April 2026 alone, hackers stole over $635 million across 28 separate exploits, setting a new monthly record, with total damage for 2026 now exceeding $840 million. Two of the largest DeFi exploits of 2026 occurred within just 18 days: the approximately $285 million breach of Drift Protocol on Solana on 1 April, and the approximately $292 million exploit from Kelp DAO on 18 April.

Notably, three of the four largest incidents in 2026 did not involve a single line of flawed code. The smart contracts did exactly what they were programmed to do, but were given fraudulent instructions by attackers who had obtained access they should not have had. This underscores why user-level vigilance, such as scrutinising wallet requests and guarding private keys, matters as much as protocol-level security.

Scams are a regular feature of the crypto landscape, and data from Chainalysis suggests that they are growing across the board, affecting not only Shiba Inu. For $SHIB holders in particular, Shibburn's message is clear: pause before approving any wallet request you did not initiate, and never share your seed phrase with anyone.
